  • History

Humbrol is a British company, founded in Kingston upon Hull in 1919. Originally known as the ‘Humber Oil Company’, they initially supplied bicycle oil for the cyclists of Hull. Then, in 1935, they started to produce paints for renovating cycles – resulting in Art Enamel. They broadened their paint collection over the coming years. Then, in the early 1950s the introduction of the plastic kit ushered in a new era in modelling.

Today, Humbrol continue to produce high-quality paints. Known especially for their enamel paints manufactured for use with plastic model kits. They produce most of their paint in London and Manchester.

In 2006 Hornby Hobbies Ltd acquired the company.
