This kit is a highly-detailed scale replica of the Porsche Carrera GT sports car.
German automobile manufacturer Porsche specialise in high-performance sports cars. Their brand of cars ‘Carrera’ takes its name from the Spanish translation of the word ‘race’. Specifically, the name commemorates the company’s success in the Carrera Panamericana race – an open road race held in Mexico for five years in the 1950s.
The Carrera GT variant was in production from 2003 to 2007. ‘GT’ stands for Gran Turismo which is Italian for ‘Grand Touring’. It is a mid-engine sports car with a 5.7 litre V10 engine powering it, blasting out 603 horsepower. It could reach 100 mph in 6.8 seconds and had a top speed of 205 mph, achieved in part due to its lightweight pure carbon fibre monocoque (body) and subframe.
At high speeds, an electronically operated rear wing raised into the airstream to reduce lift and keep the GT planted firmly on the tarmac. Indeed, the Porsche Carrera GT certainly wowed the world – and rightfully so! It offered the high-performance of a race car whilst also having the usability and safety of a road car. Production of this epic car only reached 1,270.
Tamiya models are renowned for their realism, and this kit is no exception.
This isn’t just a kit that looks good on display – it has working parts too! Durable die-cast suspension arms working dampers and stabilizers allow for real-action suspension. The undertray (which comes pre-painted in black) and front trunk are die-cast too.
Metal-hinged doors, hood and rear cowl open realistically to display the fully detailed interior and V10 engine. Pressing the license plate causes the rear wing to pop up to the extended position. The hard-top is removable and it is possible to store it under the hood to show off the convertible style of the Porsche. The 2-part roof mirrors that of the actual vehicle, and can be stowed in the front trunk. Vinyl tubing depicts ignition cords, brake cables, etc to achieve a realistic finish.
Metal transfers recreate the side mirrors, rear view mirror and car logo. Photo-etched parts recreate the mesh which features on the rear engine hood. Also included are decals, masking stickers and seatbelt material.
A wrench is included for removing and attaching wheels.
The kit comes on sprues which need to be cut out and then assembled with modelling glue/cement. The design of the kit allows for unblemished recreation of the elegant curves of the body. The kit also requires painting.
It comes supplied with suggested paint colour codes from the Tamiya range of paints. However, you can paint it however you like!
