    History

The M4 Sherman is based on the chassis and many other elements of the former model M3 Lee – an American tank produced during World War II. It was in service from 1942 to 1957 in the US.

The tank was named by the British for the American Civil War general William Tecumseh Sherman.

It was a Medium Tank: a compromise between light and heavy tanks. The focus of light tanks was mobility, whereas the focus of heavy tanks was armament.

The M4 Sherman proved to be reliable, relatively cheap to produce, and available in great numbers. Therefore unsurprisingly, the most widely used medium tank by the US and Western Allies in World War II and many infantry divisions were provided with M4s and tank destroyers. In total, nearly 50,000 would be built.

A M3 75mm calibre cannon armed it and it weighed over 30 tonnes. It’s travel range was between 100 and 150 miles and it could travel at speeds of up to 30 miles per hour. It had a crew of 5 men.

The Army had 7 main sub-designations for M4 variants during production: M4A1, M4A2, M4A3, M4A4, M4A5, and M4A6. But, a higher number did not indicate improvement. Instead, these sub-types indicated standardised production variations, which were in fact often manufactured concurrently at different locations.

The sub-types differed mainly in engines, although the M4A1 differed by its fully cast upper hull, with a distinctive rounded appearance. Most Sherman sub-types ran on gasoline and the M4A1 produced 350 or 400 horsepower.

After World War II, the Sherman, particularly the many improved and upgraded versions, continued to see combat service in many conflicts around the world.

    Model Details

From the world of COBI comes this fantastic model.

It has many moving parts such as: opening hatches, a mobile machine gun, and rotating wheels and tracks. The tank tower, along with the gun barrel, can be rotated. The gun barrel can also move up and down.

The vehicle is also a very solid design, which faithfully reflects the original shapes of its historical original.

The Sherman M4A1 is a great toy, but also a special part of any collection of military fan and armoured weapons.

The set includes a figure of the American Rangers captain armed with a Thompson submachine gun.

The vehicle is a refreshed and revised version of the bestselling model (2464). It includes new brick shapes and design solutions. This includes narrowed and reduced designs, new reduced blocks imitating side carriages, a completely new tower design and completely rebuilt rear armour.

Model released in a special edition to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of D-Day.
