The heaviest self-propelled mortar used during the Second World War was the 60 cm Karl-Gerät 040. What’s more, a huge 60 cm gun equipped it.
Each gun had to be accompanied by a crane, a two-piece heavy transport set of railcars, and several modified tanks in order to carry shells.
The Germans managed to produce only a few copies. Six of the seven guns that were build saw combat between 1941 and 1945. In particular, Karl Gerät number 6 was commonly referred to as “Ziu”. The Germans utilised it to shell Warsaw during the 1944 Uprising.
After the war, all but one Karl-Gerät survived.
This model utilizes blocks and has many features such as rotating wheels and tracks, a movable gun barrel and a charging system.
