The Sd.Kfz. 9 was used by Nazi Germany during World War II.
Sd.Kfz. 9 is a shortened version of Sonderkraftfahrzeug 9 which translates to a ‘special purpose vehicle’ in German. A German company named FAMO were responsible for its design and manufacture. Thus, ‘FAMO’ became its nickname – certainly less of a mouthful than ‘Sonderkraftfahrzeug 9’.
It was a half-track vehicle, which meant that it had regular wheels at the front for steering. Then, on the back, were continuous tracks to propel the vehicle and carry most of the load.
The heaviest half-track vehicle of any type built in quantity in Nazi Germany during the war years. Its main roles were as a prime mover for very heavy towed guns and as a tank recovery vehicle. It also served for the transport of artillery, infantry and supplies, as well as for technical support.
Approximately 2,500 were produced between 1938 and 1945.
From the world of COBI comes the model of a heavy German artillery tractor Sd.Kfz. 9 Famo faithfully rendered vehicle from World War II.
Numerous moving elements such as rotating wheels and tracks and opening flaps allow great fun for all even the youngest fans of the military.
Every adult passionate about history and armoured weapons will surely be happy to decorate their collection with this model.
What’s more, a German field gendarme figure with two red flags for driving vehicle comes with the set.
