    History

The T-34 is a Soviet tank, introduced in 1940. It was a Medium Tank: a compromise between light and heavy tanks. The focus of light tanks was mobility, whereas the focus of heavy tanks was armament.

Operation Barbarossa was the Axis invasion of the Soviet Union. Famously, the Soviets deployed the T-34 in defence of their nation. The Red Army had 967 T-34 tanks which proved a psychological shock to German soldiers. The Nazis had expected to face an inferior enemy however, the T-34 was superior to any tank the Germans then had in service.

The T-34/85 came into play in late 1944, when the basic model received a firepower upgrade.

Four Tank-Men and a Dog (Polish: Czterej pancerni i pies) was a Polish black and white TV series. It followed the adventures of a tank crew and their T-34 tank in the 1st Polish Army during WWII.

Their tank was a T-34/85 model named Rudy (Ginger) with the identifying number “102”. Indeed, many Eastern Bloc countries followed the adventures of the Red 102 crew and Szarik the German Shepherd dog. Firstly, the show aimed to teach young viewers that friendship and courage can overcome many difficulties. Secondly, the series also had a propaganda function to show the nobility and fraternity of the Red Army.
